Lutece - Bardon Espresso & Matcha

Starting off the year always requires a little more motivation on my part to keep my everyday routine going, and having fully realised that the festive season has truly passed, I needed some sort of joy to keep my balance in life, and nothing brings me more joy than a girls night out for a long chat over wonderful food. Wanting to try something new, we headed over to the long established Lutece in Bardon for a memorable night's dinner over exceptional company.

Having made a booking beforehand, we were promptly seated. Unfortunately for us though, we didn't get one of the much coveted window seats. Must make a note to come back next time for it. Being a Thursday night, the restaurant was completely booked out though, and it was definitely bustling, to the point where it was a little difficult to flag down a waiter during the busy periods.

Espresso & Matcha's Saporous Expedition - Sydney Doux Amour Espresso & Matcha

Stopping by my second most favourite shopping centre in Sydney, Regent Place, Queen V and I ran into one of her favourite bakeries in Sydney, Doux Amour, which had conveniently opened a pop up on the bottom floor.

Though I had never tried it before, seeing those adorable puffs was enough to put me into a super excited mood. Had it not been for the expensive price tag ($7 for ONE PUFF), I would have gone all out and bought one of every single flavour.

In the end, in the interest of sensibility, we only got two to go, the pink lychee and rose pig, and the earl grey koala. Looking at their adorable faces, it took a lot of heart wrenching before I gave in and cut them in half to share with Queen V. Both were amazingly delicious, and filled to the top with flavoured cream. The lychee one had noticeably chunks of lychee inside of it and was very fra...

Willow and Spoon Memories Treasure Chest

Willow and Spoon, Windsor

Finally on a child free day (Grace's first day in childcare), Mr and myself went out for a lunch date at Willow and Spoon. Certainly it was not a romantic setting, but we appreciate this little moment we have together. I think couples deserve this time together if possible!

Parking was easy to find along the street, and there are plenty of seats at the back of the cafe. I have been here years ago and it has been upgraded with new paint and design. It is bright and lovely.

Willow and Spoon's menu

After browsing the menu, I knew what I want straightaway. I previously had a waffle dish (could not be bothered to blog about this place or maybe I should?) in another cafe and was so disappointed. I need to satisfy that craving and hence, ordered the Southern Fried Chicken with waffle. It turned out to be an amazing dish! Seriously love the crunchy fried chicken and it was paired beautifully with the waffle. The honey and bourbon beans were quite mild and not too overpowering. Simply good!

Darren Hayes Blasts Cory Bernardi Over Music Stunt "IndyWatch Feed Seq"

Singer Darren Hayes has slammed Australian Conservatives leader Cory Bernardi after the senator used one of Savage Gardens songs in a political stunt ahead of Australia Day. Last year Triple J announced it was moving the date of its popular Hottest 100 countdown to January 27 out of respect for Indigenous Australians after a large ...

Eating Out: Pu Kwong and Su Life Kittens Gone Lentil

This post is a mash up of a few visits to Pu Kwong, and one to Su Life.

Regular readers will know of my love for visiting Pu Kwong! You can check out my other visits here Of course, no meal at Pu Kwong is complete without some bean curd rolls and steamed BBQ buns to start!!

Beancurd Rolls at Pu Kwong

Steamed BBQ Bun at Pu Kwong

My favourite dish there, that I have ordered frequently at recent visits, is the mixed mushrooms with tofu. A giant plate of soft roasted tofu and mixed mushrooms in a great savoury brown sauce. While I am partial to bok choy, I if they replaced it with broccoli it would be the ultimate dish for me.

We almost always order the Greens In Ginger Sauce as well, because vegetables are important!

Mum has also ordered the Sizzling Mongolian Lamb a couple of times. It has a lovely sauce, and the vegan lamb chunks are a good texture.

Espresso & Matcha's Saporous Expedition - Sydney: Grounds of the City Espresso & Matcha

Having gone to the Grounds of Alexandria with Iron Fist, I was pleased to see them open a secondary store in the CBD, making it a lot easier for me to try out when I went with Queen V during our last trip. Conveniently situated in my favourite shopping mall, the Galleries, it was one of the few cafes that open early on a Sunday morning (we were particularly impressed at the online reservation system). With its eye catching neon red sign on the ground floor, it was definitely hard to miss.

Like the Grounds of Alexandria, presentation was paramount, and despite the limitations of operatin...

Espresso & Matcha's Saporous Expedition - Sydney: Noodle Night Markets Espresso & Matcha

Not gonna say too much in this post, but rather wanted to share some of the photos I took of the noodle night market in Sydney when we last went. Unfortunately it had rained most of the day, so that impacted the environment a little bit. It also didn't help that we went out just before it was due to close because my afternoon nap went a little too long...

Recipe Round-Up: Eat Like You Give A Damn Kittens Gone Lentil

This is my first round-up from Eat Like You Give A Damn, a fun cookbook written by Michelle Schwegmann and Josh Hooten of Portland's The Herbivore Clothing Company. This is a shiny little book, with lots of pictures and some tempting recipes. This round up will mostly look at breakfast recipes that I have made from it.

Herbivore's Tofu Scramble with Go-To Greens and Tahini Sauce: This tofu recipe is so simple, and is reminiscent of the amazing tofu served in Austin at Bouldin Creek Cafe. The tofu is coated with nutritional yeast and seasonings, and comes out with a great, crunchy, cheesy crust. The book has many options for their go-to greens, which are steam-fried, and I used silverbeet (swiss chard). I did have to drain it at the end, there was quite a lot of liquid. All topped with the amazing Tahini Sauce, which comes together so quickly and is amazing. When I made the sauce this time, I used smoked garlic, which added a great flavour.
Rating: Scramble :), Greens :), Sauce :D

Ranch Scramble with Cream Biscuits: This was a great, herby tofu scramble, with broccoli and tomato (though I could have done with even more vegetable!). When it is all cooked, the recipe says to top in the pan with some sour cream and cover, and it will melt into scramble. It didn't melt into it, I ended stirring it through. You can see I topped it with some more sour cream as well. The cream biscuits are very easy to make, using cashew cream or soy creamer. I used some soy creamer for these. The recipe makes 8 biscuits, I made a half recipe and shaped them into three biscuits, which cooked in 18 minutes. This served three people for brinner.
Rating: Scramble :), Biscuits :)

Ranch Scramble; Cream Biscuits

Apple & Peanut Butter Smoothie: I loved this smoothie. I made a half recipe, which made just over one large glass. I added extra peanut butter (of course) and added an extra splash of milk (I use oat milk). As well as apples and peanut butter, it also has bananas, molasses and cinnamon (with some other stuff), that just made a delicious, creamy, not-too-sweet sta...

Revisit: Golden Lane - Sunnybank Espresso & Matcha

Was recently invited by Golden Lane to try out their Yumcha offerings with The Tomcat Family. With my sub par experience last time, I thought it would be a nice opportunity to see if their standards had improved.

Our first concern for the day was the apparent lack of organisation. Despite receiving written invitation from the owner, staff were not informed of this, which resulted in considerable confusion and also a very long wait for a table on our part.
